Drinking water pollution has long been a top environmental concern for Americans — above air pollution and climate change. Many of the nation’s largest city systems violated EPA safety standards during the past decade, potentially exposing tens of millions of people to dangerous contaminants.

According to a recently released Gallup poll that showed such worries at their highest level in 16 years, as water systems age, 63% of Americans are now concerned a “great deal” about drinking water pollution. Water quality is a problem that most Americans would like to address.
